Researcher's paper on 'Minorities and Youth Justice: An Irish Concern?' in report launched by the Association for Criminal Justice Research and Development
Nicola Carr, Research Student in the School and Research Fellow in the Children's Research Centre presented a paper at the Annual Conference of the Association of Criminal Justice Research and Development (ACJRD) in October 2008. The conference report will be launched by Mr Conor Lenihan T.D., the Minister for Integration at the European Information Centre on Thursday 9th April 2009.

National Awareness Self-Injury Awarness Day
Kay Inckle, Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the School, organised the launch of Ireland's first National Self-Injury Awareness Day at a seminar entitled ‘New Ways of Understanding Self-Injury' on 2nd March 2009 in the School of Nursing & Midwifery. School Researchers to undertake Campbell Collaboration systematic review
School Researchers to undertake Campbell Collaboration systematic review, School researchers, Dr Philip Curry and Prof Robbie Gilligan, are to undertake a Campbell Collaboration systematic review entitled 'The impact of social psychological and educational interventions to enhance inter-group and inter-ethnic relations in primary and secondary schools'. The study, which is to be based at the Children's Research Centre, is recognised by the international Campbell Collaboration, as it will adhere to the protocol and standards laid down by the Campbell Collaboration which seeks to improve decision-making through systematic reviews on the effects of interventions.

Research on the Mental Health of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender People
The Minister for Health and Children, Mary Harney, launched the report Supporting LGBT Lives: A Study of the Mental Health and Well-Being of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender People on Monday, February 2nd last. The research was led by TCD's Dr Paula Mayock of the Children's Research Centre and Dr Audrey Bryan of UCD. Other authors include Nicola Carr also of the Children's Research Centre, and Karl Kitching of UCC.

'Understanding Changing Welfare States and Social Policies: Causes, Processes and Consequences'. Both quantitative and qualitative studies of social policies and welfare states can bring to light similarities and differences and highlight convergence or divergence between systems. Examination of the causes and consequences of these similarities and differences is the mainstay of comparative social policy research.
